The School for F.M. Alexander Studies offers both an AUSTAT accredited diploma and a government accredited Advanced Diploma in Alexander Technique Teaching.

Students on this course are eligible for Austudy and overseas students are able to apply for a three year student visa to study at the school.

The school has an a very active program of post-graduate study, and is committed to assisting its graduates in establishing themselves as Alexander Technique professionals.

Director of Training, Diana Devitt-Dawson, M.STAT (London), M. AUSTAT, R.N/Midf., M.AIMA, M.ASPAH (Australian Society for Performing Arts Healthcare), M. BAPAM, (British Association for Performing Arts Medicine).
Diana, a Tasmanian, is a registered nurse/midwife - graduate of RPA Hospital, Sydney. Diana did post-graduate studies in cardiovascular care and stress & pain management at St.Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, Canada and orthopaedic studies at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London.

From 1981-1984 Diana studied the Alexander Technique in London with the 1st.generation teacher Mr. Patrick Macdonald and his assistant Shoshana Kaminitz. Following graduation Diana accepted a teaching post with Dr.Wilfred Barlow M.D./AT and Marjorie Barlow at the Alexander Institute in central London. Diana returned to Australia in 1989 and set up a private practice in Melbourne.

Special Interests:- Alexander Teacher Training; Preventative and Rehabilitative Health Care with Alexander re-education; Mind/Body Co-ordination; Conducting Alexander lessons to young and old; Conducting Post-Graduate Training Periods; Stress and Pain Management with Alexander re-education; Conducting Alexander Pre-Natal classes; Preventative and Rehabilitative Healthcare Education for Performing Artists and Playing Harp.

Teacher Training 'Style':- Diana's teaching 'style' is influenced by the 1st.generation teachers which whom she has worked including, Dr.Wilfred Barlow M.D., Marjorie Barlow; Erika Whittaker, Margaret Goldie and Patrick Macdonald. It is a teaching that 'sticks to principle.' Diana is dedicated in 'preserving F.M. Alexander's teaching in it's authentic form.' Therefore, the course curriculum at the Alexander Technique Institute Teacher Training School Sydney, does not include Eastern disciplines, exercises or any 'new age' programs.

In order to facilitate a learning environment the atmosphere at the school is peaceful, mindful and supportive. Trainee numbers are kept small with a maximum of 10 trainees at any one time. The teacher trainee ratio is 1:5.

Byron Alexander Centre has arranged with the School for F.M. Alexander Studies, to deliver its government accredited Advanced Diploma in Alexander Technique Teaching. It also has AUSTAT accreditation for its course.
