What about exercise?
It is very likely after a series of Alexander Lessons you will find exercise more pleasurable and beneficial. We're more concerned that you don't misuse or strain yourself. The Technique shows you the key to cultivating poise. Exercise without poise often does more harm than good. Slumping joggers and contorted weightlifters, for example, create what philosopher John Dewey called "compensatory maladjustments" - distorting the whole system to produce a specific result. A relaxed alertness leads to far better performance in the competitive arena. Note the quality of poise present in the top athletes. Mohammad Ali was a classic example.
